Point Ormond Reserve

3Acres LA were engaged by City of Port Phillip to develop a design scheme for the iconic Point Ormond Beacon, including an upgrade of the nearby Point Ormond play space.

The well-loved Beacon Hill is a fantastic vantage point, with views of the city, the bay and sunsets in the west. In recent times, the grassy banks have suffered from over-use, over-zealous cyclists and drought. The upgrade provides rock-salt finish paths along key desire lines, improved grass coverage and a seating wall in the shadows of the beacon.

The new play space illustrates the little-known life cycle of the beacon, from baby beacon barnacles in rock pools, mini-beacon seats and coloured juvenile beacons to the full-sized beacon on the hill. An escarpment of pink mudstone with slides and a flying fox references the original name and history of Point Ormond as Red Bluff. Improved picnic facilities and shelter are also provided.
